Important Communication 2020

 Turin, 19th March 2020

Dear SMC/CIM friends and colleagues,

We have been confident in organizing the SMC/CIM Conference 2020 until last week. But because of the actual worldwide situation due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is evidently not possible to physically welcome you all in Turin this June. The safety and well-being of our participants is of paramount importance.

Still, authors worked hard for their scientific and music submissions, and peer reviews are under way (thank you!). Which is why, following discussions with the SMC and AIMI steering boards, we have made the difficult decision to convert the scientific track of SMC 2020 to a fully virtual conference, while keeping the CIM scientific and SMC/CIM music submissions for SMC/CIM 2021. The SMC Demo track and Summer School are postponed to 2021.

More specifically:

There will be no physical SMC/CIM conference in Turin this June.

We are making arrangements to host the SMC/CIM 2021 conference in Turin in 2021 with the same theme, “Imaging sound” (we <3 Turin!).

We will keep all scientific and music submissions made to SMC/CIM 2020, but:

SMC scientific track: following peer review, selected papers and posters will be

(i) presented as part of a virtual conference and

(ii) published in the SMC 2020 proceedings.

A brand new call for papers will be issued for SMC/CIM 2021. That way scientific works submitted for SMC 2020 will not be lost and we will respect yearly scheduling of the SMC conference.

CIM scientific track: we will freeze the submission procedure and keep the submitted papers for CIM 2021. Additional submissions will be allowed as part of the SMC/CIM 2021 call.

SMC/CIM music tracks: we will proceed similarly to the CIM scientific track.

This is the first communication of general next steps. A more detailed message will follow over the next few days, including information on cancellation of travel and accommodation.

Best regards
